20 of the 23 Pocono municipalities we checked, across Monroe, Carbon and Pike counties, require short term rental registration or a permit. Smithfield Township and Hamilton Township have no registration ordinance but restrict STRs through zoning instead, and Price Township's status is unconfirmed because its official site blocked our automated check. Of the 20 that require registration, only 8 print a dollar figure in the ordinance or fee schedule itself; the other 12 set the fee by council or supervisor resolution and do not publish the amount. Every figure below comes from the township's own ordinance, fee schedule or permit application, checked 2026-09-26.
These are the only Pocono municipalities in our index where a dollar amount appears directly in an ordinance, resolution or application form we could read. Lackawaxen Township is the cheapest at $100 initial for existing compliant rentals, $300 for new, and Jackson Township is the most expensive first-time permit at $1,000 initial (non refundable), $750 annual renewal.

These townships require a permit, but the fee itself is set by a separate council or supervisor resolution rather than printed in the ordinance, so we could not find a dollar figure to report. If you own in one of these, call the township directly and ask for the current fee schedule before you budget for a launch date.
Smithfield Township and Hamilton Township have no STR registration ordinance in our search, but both use zoning to restrict short term rentals instead: Smithfield Township bars them in most residential districts and permits them only in its Resort district, and Hamilton Township's zoning was upheld by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court in Slice of Life v. Hamilton Twp ZHB (2019) as not permitting the use at all. Price Township's official site blocked our repeated automated checks, so its status stays unknown rather than assumed clear.
A registration requirement is a compliance step, not a pricing signal. It has no relationship to the management fee a company charges, tracked separately in our Poconos fee index. What it does determine is whether you can legally take a booking at all: several townships above void an unregistered rental's ability to operate, and inspection failures can delay a launch by weeks. Confirm your exact township's current rule before you accept a reservation, since fees and ordinances change by resolution more often than by a new ordinance number.
